Marine Wildlife

Gardline carry out a wide range of environmental, marine wildlife, metocean, benthic and pelagic surveys, supporting clients in the oil and gas, renewables, construction and decommissioning industries. We provide Marine Mammal Observation (MMO) and Passive Acoustic Monitoring Systems (PAMS) to clients for use during geophysical seismic surveys and wind farm piling operations in the UK and international waters.

Marine mammal mitigation

Here at Gardline, we understand the importance for offshore commercial activity to adhere to best practice and marine mammal mitigation legislation. Yet in an industry where marine survey vessels may cost in the order of hundreds of thousands of pounds per day, you need to ensure that your survey is completed on time, within budget, with minimal impact on the marine environment.

What we can do for you

  • Marine Mammal Observations (MMO)
  • Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM)
  • Underwater Acoustic Profiling
  • Seabird Surveys
  • Marine Mammal ObservationTraining (Pro-MMO)
  • ESAS and Passive Acoustic Monitoring Services training
  • Consultancy and Environmental Impact Assessments
  • Environmental, Client and HSSE Offshore Representatives

Real time monitoring technology

By conducting both MMO and PAMS in conjunction, limiting factors such as poor weather conditions, background noise, non acoustic animals or non detectable vocalisations can be overcome, meaning your survey can be carried out during 24 hour operations, giving you real time behavioural/acoustic comparisons as well as geo-referenced acoustic data.

JNCC, NZ DOC and PSO qualified staff

All of Gardline’s professional, experienced and dedicated Marine Mammal Observers (MMO’s) and Passive Acoustic Monitoring Services (PAMS) are JNCC (Joint Nature Conservation Committee) qualified with many also qualified NZ DOC (New Zealand Department of Conservation) MMO's and PSO (Protected Species Observer), meaning that your survey will adhere to legislation and protocol and minimise the acoustic disturbance of the marine environment.
